Choosing the right organic dentist for you or your family is as important as choosing the right physician. It’s, in fact, even more important from a prevention point of view because what happens to your teeth and gums is harbinger for your overall body health.
There are many organic dentists who claim to be holistic and use all natural methods and treatments to treat patients with dental diseases, but, actually, they are not. They heavily promote themselves as natural on their websites, fooling lots of people, and still use conventional dental treatment along with a few natural treatments.
Do not take the dentist’s word when selecting organic dentistry for your treatment. Instead, prepare a list of questions beforehand to ask from them. Remember, a right organic dentist always uses nontoxic methods and treatments that facilitate oral health without causing damage to the rest of the body.
Here are some of the important factors to check off the list to make sure if your dentist is truly organic.
Amalgams produce the mercury or vapors which can be harmful to human health. The right organic dentist does not offer amalgam fillings as a treatment option because they know the importance of their health as well as their patients’ health. If your dentist chooses amalgams as an option, leave their office immediately. The harmful elements of mercury vapors moving around the dental office should be enough reason to not to go there unless you accept this treatment choice yourself.
Fluoride is an established cause to reduce a child’s IQ level. It also weakens the bones and harms the thyroid, and thereby leading to the increased risk of fractures. In some cases, fluoride also leads to white spots on the teeth. No actual organic dentist in their right mind would ever use this harmful treatment for a child.
A truly holistic dentist knows that sealants materials are produced from hormone disrupting Bisphenol A (BPA) which can be harmful for their patients’ health. Hence, they never consider using this material for any dental problem. Some sealants are also made of BPS chemical which is as bad as BPA. Remember, there is no existence of BPA-free sealants in the market until now, so don’t be fooled if your dentist claims to use BPA free sealants for the procedure.
Truly holistic dentists avoid drilling practices. In the cases where a cavity needs filling, they try to keep as much of the tooth intact as possible and use nontoxic materials for filling. However, an inlay can be considered for the tooth with large hole or cavity. Crowns are applied after removing up to 2/3 of the tooth and an organic doctor would use this type of procedure only as a last resort.
The organic dentists who care for their patients do not use an x-ray on a child until they are above 13 years. Find another if your dentist insists on a round of bite wings in every visit. While there are digital x-rays that are 50 percent lower in radiation than the old x-ray machines, do not believe that these devices produce insignificant radiation.
