With recent announcements of heroin abuse being on the rise, it is little wonder that approximately 435,000 people admit to using heroin regularly. It is a good idea to remember that these are only the people that admit to using heroin and not an estimate of everyone who uses regularly. There are potentially millions more that are in denial or who simply do not admit it. Many agencies estimate that this number rose between 20 and 25 percent in only one year. This means that heroin use is increasing exponentially.

Looking at this increase, it is not difficult to see why it is happening. Heroin is usually considered a low cost, easy to obtain an alternative to prescription opiates. In some people’s eyes it is viewed as a pain killing substitute and in others, it is simply a recreational drug. Unfortunately, although the initial cost is low, the cost increases exponentially as you use it.

It is very easy to become addicted to heroin. When you become addicted, you develop a tolerance to the drug. Once you develop a tolerance, you need more and more of the drug in order to achieve the same results. Soon you find yourself needing more hits of heroin in order to achieve the same result. The cost increases as your tolerance increases. It is very simple, you need more so, you buy more.

If you take the average price of a hit of heroin, $15 to $20, you begin by spending once or twice a week. This does not seem like much at first. As your habit develops, you may start using two to three times a week. Even cheap heroin at this rate will cost you $30 to $45 a week. When your habit becomes more severe, you start taking it once a day. This increases your cost to around $105 per week. Soon one hit will not be enough. This means that that one hit per day will increase to two, three, even ten hits per day. At three hits per day, seven days per week, your cost grows to $210 per week. For a severe addiction, it can cost between $525 to $1050 per week.

This is only the beginning. A severe addiction can cripple you. You will not be able to work, go to school, or care for your family. Soon you will lose all of these things but you will still have your addiction. You will still need the money to support it. This increases the cost. It begins to cost you your dignity and self-respect.

The only way to stop this from happening is to get help now. You can find a complete heroin detox through heroin detox facilities like those at detox.com. There are listings of comprehensive support programs, detox facilities, and volumes of information on heroin, heroin addiction, and other drugs. The way out is to find, the help that you need to end your addiction. You are not alone. You can end your addiction and avoid the high cost of heroin addiction.
